Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the inability to get or keep an erection firm enough to have or complete a satisfactory sexual intercourse. It is also sometimes called impotence.

Erectile Dysfunction can be a sign of health problems like diabetes, hypertension or heart and vessel disease that need treatment. It can also be a sign of emotional or relationship difficulties that may need to be addressed by a psychologist.

Other types of male sexual dysfunction include:

* Premature ejaculation

* Delayed or absent ejaculation

* Lack of interest in sex

How Common Is Erectile Dysfunction?

ED affects almost half of all men between the ages of 40 and 70 to a varying degree.

Although the risk of ED increases with age, ED is not an inevitable consequence of getting older. It may be more difficult to get an erection as you age, but that does not necessarily mean that it cannot be made better. In general, the healthier a man is, the better his sexual function.

What Causes Erectile Dysfunction?

There are many causes for ED which can be Psychological or Physical and usually a combination of factors. These include:

* Cardiovascular disease (heart and vessels)

* Diabetes Mellitus

* Damage to arteries and nerves from cancer or surgery

* Neurological disease

* Stress and anxiety

* Relationship problems

* Drug and alcohol use

* Smoking.

What should you do if you suffer from erectile weakness?

There are a number of Erectile Dysfunction treatments available. The type of treatment generally depends on the underlying cause of ED, which can be determined by the doctor through clinical examination and blood tests. A penile Doppler may also be required to check the blood flow in the penis and determine the exact cause of ED.

Treatment for Erectile Dysfunction

Treatments for ED range from counseling and lifestyle changes to medications, injections or surgery. If you suffer from ED, it is important to talk to one of our urology and Andrology doctors who can help identify the cause of your ED and figure out the most appropriate and personalized treatment for you.

One of the newest treatments available today is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) penile injection, which is widely used in the United States and our center is exclusively licensed to provide this treatment in the Middle East. It results in penile corporal rejuvenation leading to a harder and sustainable erection. It can also result in penis enlargement when used according to a special protocol.

Low intensity shockwave therapy is another effective treatment modality for ED that improves the blood flow into the penis by stimulating the formation of new blood vessels and thus enhancing a man’s capability to attain and maintain a stronger erection. We have one of the most advanced devices for delivering Shockwave therapy for erectile dysfunction.

When all these and other treatments like penile injections fail, then a penile implant is usually recommended. There are many types of these implants available and can be discussed with doctor Alkhayal for a suitable device.

Do not hesitate to get in touch with Dr. Shawket Alkhayal who is an expert

in treating erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation and who will be more than happy to help you improve the quality of your life.

Please do not self-prescribe for ED, many of the treatments available on the Internet are scams. They may not help your ED, and could even damage your health.
